  • Photo Taken by Founding Life Member Steve Clark in Unit 7E during the Sept. 2005 Archery Elk Hunt.   After an intense bugling and rutting filled 4 days  Steve harvested this bull on the morning of the fifth day.  He Snuck in front of him while he was heading for his morning nap.  The elk went a total of 30 yards before expiring.  This years hunt was the most exciting year to be in the woods.  Steve is crossing his fingers for 2006.
  • Photo This bull  had great mass, and little tine length after the first 3 on each side. He was almost palmated on both sides up near the top. John Koleszar took him in unit 3C. It was definitely unique for John to take one bull w/ a rifle, and one bull w/ a bow in 2 consecutive years.
  • Photo Photographers can brag too! Here is a recent photo of a young bull elk who has been living in the desert, about 12 miles north of Mirana (between Tucson & Eloy), for the last 3-months. The bull just recently dropped his antlers and will surely appreciate not lugging them around in another month or so. We figure he will be looking for ice tea and sun-screen real soon.
  • Photo AES Member Fred Schapler of Tempe drew his first elk permit in 2003 ... an early rifle bull tag in Unit 23. With the help of guide Dillon Eck (Flat Iron Outfitters) Fred was able to take a very nice 6 X 6 on the third day of his hunt. The bull scored 355.
  • Photo Founding Life Member Doug Stancill took this bull during the last late hunt of November 2004 in Unit 27. Doug used a 225gr Federal Premium bullet in the .338 Ruger #1 rifle that he won at the first AES banquet in March 2002. The bull field scored at 328 2/8. Doug and his son had a 3 1/2 mile hike to pack the bull out.
  • Photo Founding member Russ Hunter applied for a Unit 9 archery bull hunt for ten years before getting drawn for the 2004 hunt. He passed on bulls every day. On the seventh day took this 357 6/8 trophy. The G3 point on the right side measured 37" alone!
  • Photo Whoa! AES member Mike Jones took his two boys, Scott and Matt, into the field with Kevin Hummel and Jack Rainey with hopes of some success. They put down three elk on the opening day and added the forth on the next day. Mike made this photo collage as a keepsake for the four successful hunters.
  • Photo Member Doug Coplen and his father Scott were successful on their 2004 Washington elk hunt ... AGAIN! In 1994 they both took their bulls within a half hour of one another and they did it again in 2004. Some 10th anniversary!
  • Photo Founding and past AES Board Member Craig Thatcher made a trip to Pacific Creek, Wyoming in September 2004 for elk hunting. Craig had his .300 Weatherby all prepared for that "long shot" and ended up shooting this nice bull at 15 yards.
  • Photo AES Vice President, John Koleszar, waited 14 years to get an Early Bull rifle tag before having a successful draw in 2004. John's tag was one of only 20 authorized for Unit 3A/3C. After passing on a dozen bulls, this 334 bull presented itself at 40 yards and John connected with a 30.06 Weatherby. Shown in the photo with John is Bruce Sitko. Bruce helped John with calling, stalking, tracking, field dressing and transporting the bull. And now .. it is back to the wait!
  • Photo AES Member John Noble drew a 2003 early bull permit in Unit 7 and was able to fill his tag with this nice 388 bull. This was Johns' first elk! The bulls main beams measured 55 1/2" and the royals were 20 1/2". John used the services of Mullins Guide Service to assist him with his Arizona trophy.
