Unit 4A - O'Haco Ranch Water Tank Reseal - April 14&15, 2012

We will be mucking out, grinding, cleaning and resealing a 20,000 gallon water tank on the O'Haco ranch. Jim O'haco has been a great steward of the land and wildlife habitat. One of Jim's tanks that feeds the ranches extensive pipeline that supplies water to the ranch cattle and many elk and antelope is leaking and in need of repair.

We need a 25 hard working volunteers on this project so please mark you calendar. We will be providing meals Friday night, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. The Arizona Elk Society and AZGFD will be supplying the tools needed for this project.

This project will involve cleaning out, grinding and then applying epoxy. We will have tools, gloves and implements on site. Be prepared for cool mornings and possibly rain. Old clothes are recommended for those working with the grinders and epoxy. We should have enough but if you have face masks and goggles or safety glasses please bring them. We need around 25 people.

If you have breathing problems or asthma this is not the project for you.

Space will be available for vehicle, tent and RV camping.

ALL volunteers welcome, you DO NOT need to be an AES member to help.

Forest Service Road #300 north from Woods Canyon lake is now OPEN

For those that are driving to the Arizona Elk Society O’Haco Work Project.

We will be loading up and driving up in the morning and will be putting up some signs and marking tape on the roads going in.  John Toner was there today and the 300 ROAD is OPEN and the 34 ROAD WAS OPEN.  SO we are taking the 300 rd from the turn off at the top of the rim like you are turning to Woods Canyon Lake.

It will be cold and possible rain so bring warm clothes and rain gear.

Some directions have changed:

Take the 300 RD to the 34 RD and TURN RIGHT

On the 34 RD you will come to an area where the pavement starts.

Go about 3 miles on the pavement then watch for FR 63, TURN LEFT.

Go about 7 miles to FR 63A and TURN LEFT.

The last two miles on FR63 to the camp area are pretty rough.

TAKE IT SLOW.

Watch for a sign on the road and go through the gate about ¼ mi to camp.
